The Citizens' Fire Academy is a 12-week course that gives students the opportunity to experience all aspects of Fire Department activities in a safe, educational and fun environment. Classes are held one night a week and consist of one hour of lecture followed by 2 hours of hands-on practical skills.
Highlights of the Academy include driving the fire engines, wearing turnout gear, and learning about Emergency Medical Services. Students also get to experience our specialty teams like Hazardous Materials, Water Search and Rescue, and Technical Rescue. During this Academy you will learn what it takes to be a firefigher and what Henrico firefighters do on a daily basis.
There is no fee for this program. Past graduates have included firefighter wives, parents, and siblings, County employees and media reporters. The Citizens' Fire Academy is offered every spring and fall. For more information about this exciting program, please contact Amy Howard at (804) 501-7376 or how12@co.henrico.va.us .
