School, Parent & Teacher Preparedness

Disasters can occur anywhere at any time. As a community we must be prepared to respond in the worst types of disasters…those that affect our children. Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) and the Henrico County Health Department (HCHD) work closely to prepare for and respond to public health issues that may affect school age children in Henrico County.

During the 2009 H1N1 vaccination campaign, HCPS and HCHD staff worked together to provide vaccinations at all 67 public schools, that included 9 High Schools, 13 Middle Schools, and 45 Elementary Schools. This teamwork provided 22,379 vaccinations in a six week time period.
