Henrico County’s Income Protection Program (short term) is administered by Aetna and the long term portion is administered in-house. This program offers employees the opportunity to protect their income during periods of disability.
The short-term portion of the program coordinates with County leave balances so that you receive either County leave or Aetna payments during an absence of 90 days or less. Coverage can be purchased for waiting periods of 42 days, 28 days and 14 days.
Full-time employees who have completed 6 months of employment are eligible for the long-term portion. Henrico County provides the long-term portion for up to $50,000 annual salary at no charge to you. If your salary is above $50,000 and you have been employed at least six months, you may be eligible to purchase additional coverage for the remainder of your salary. The cost is $.50 per $100 of additional covered salary per year. If you are eligible to purchase additional coverage for salary above $50,000, you may complete an application and evidence of insurability form at ANY TIME, not just during Open Enrollment.
