Three-Year Accreditation

The Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) awarded Henrico County's eight MH/DS services another three-year national accreditation -- through November, 2010.

In November, 2007 a team of surveyors conducted a three-day site visit to assess eight MH/DS facilities and visited local businesses that employ MH/DS clients.

Highlights of Agency Strengths from the 2007 survey report

  • The leadership and staff members of Henrico Area Mental Health & Developmental Services demonstrate a strong commitment to the CARF standards and to providing quality services.
  • The organization's mission, values, operational systems, and human resources demonstrate a commitment to organizational quality and service excellence.
  • The mission and values of the organization clearly reflect a person-first environment and a conscious effort to remove barriers to inclusion. Persons served are treated with dignity and respect and their quality of life is the focus of the organization and its dedicated leadership and staff members.
  • It is apparent through interviews of supporters, family members, partners, and persons served that the leadership and all staff members understand and support the mission and values of the organization to achieve its outcomes and meet expectations.
  • A genuine respect for the persons served is demonstrated through out the organization.
  • The organization is commended for its efforts to emphasize employment throughout its services and supports. This helps persons served to regain a valued role in society.
  • The facilities are well maintained and attractive.
  • There is a well-organized and comprehensive system of fiscal management and controls that supports the operation of services and continued fiscal stability.

Exemplary Conformance to CARF Standards

  • The organization is commended for its comprehensive community and school-based prevention programming that serves children and families. The organization is also recognized for its efforts to establish a collaborative network in the community to serve families through an organized, broad-based, grassroots coalition.
  • Henrico Area Mental Health & Developmental Services exemplifies its commitment to employment and career building by actively referring qualified persons in recovery to the Consumer as Provider program at the local college designed to train persons with serious mental illness to become peer counselors. The organization demonstrates outstanding commitment to employing these individual upon successful completion of the program.
