Camp Registration Details:

Camp Registration Day: Saturday, March 13
(First day to register for all camps, including Summer Blast and Preschool Camps.)

Camp Registration Notes:

  • Payment is due in full at the time of registration.
  • On March 13, you may bring only one (1) other family’s registration forms with your family’s forms.
  • Camp registration is for Henrico County residents only through May 14.
  • A participant may enroll in more than one fee-based camp but cannot register for more than one session in each type of camp until May 15.
  • Beginning May 15, registration for fee-based camps will open to non-Henrico County residents.
  • Register at least one week prior to the start date.

Summer Blast Registration Notes:

  • Open to Henrico County residents only.
  • Participants must have completed grades K-8 during the 2008-2009 school year.
  • You may register for multiple sessions, but only one location per session, per child. 

Special Accommodations Due to a Disability
If the participant has a disability and will need assistance or special accommodations, check the box on the registration form and call Therapeutic Recreation at 501-5135. An inclusion packet will need to be completed and returned by May 14.

Medications
If your child requires medication(s) during camp hours (including an inhaler or epi-pen), check the box on the registration form and call Therapeutic Recreation at 501-5135. A medication form will be required and must be completed and signed by a parent/legal guardian and physician.

Scholarships 
The Division of Recreation and Parks is pleased to offer limited financial assistance to Henrico County residents who may qualify based on financial considerations. Information: 501-5101.

Summer Blast Camp

June 28-August 17, 2010 (Two-week sessions) 
Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Free and open to Henrico County residents only. Programs are available for youth who have completed grades K-4 and teens that have completed grades 5-8 during the 2009-10 school year. Registration is required in advance.

A "Summer Camp" flyer with locations and details will be available at the end of February. Flyers will be sent home Henrico County elementary school students and available at Henrico County middle schools, recreation centers, and public libraries. For more information, call 501-5096.

Camp Henrico

Activities will include canoeing, fishing, archery, arts and crafts, rock wall climbing, recreational tree climbing, swimming, and nature activities for sessions I, II, and III. Activities for session IV will include most of the activities listed above, plus kayaking and a day at a ropes course. An overnight campout will be held on the second Wednesday or Thursday of each camp session. Camp Henrico hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

The fee is $200 per session for the first child and $150 for each additional child in the immediate family. Non-residents will be charged an additional $20 per child. The fee includes all admissions plus a camp t-shirt and water bottle. Payment is due in full at time of registration. Information: Dee Donnelly, 501-5147 or Hallie Boisseau, 501-5807.

CenterStage

Enjoy a performing arts camp for youth presented at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. This camp will offer workshops and training in areas of theatre, dance, and music, including sessions in acting, improvisation, choreography, makeup, set painting, costuming, special effects, auditioning for the camera, and more. Camp hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. 

The fee is $200 per session for the first child and $150 for each additional child in the immediate family. Non-residents will be charged an additional $20 per child. Payment is due in full at the time of registration. Information: Amy Perdue, 501-5138.

Civil War Camp

For ages 10-12. Travel back to the Civil War! Experience what itw as like to join the army and serve as a soldier. Learn about Civil War sites and individuals like General R.E. Lee and African-American soldier Christian Fleetwood who passed through Henrico County during the war. Space is limited. Information: 652-3411.

History Camp at Meadow Farm

For ages 10-12. From early Native American life to 20th century luxuries, experience 500 years of culture in five days. During this jam-packed, hands-on program, participants will learn how our ancestors cultivated crops, cooked over an open fire, and wove cloth. Test your skills with an atlatl, construct a yahakin, and chink a log building on your journey through time. Information: Anna Truong, 501-2130.

Three Lakes Nature Camp

For ages 8-10. Does one week of nature discovery sound exciting to you? Each morning campers will go on a quest and develop an awareness of nature as they learn about insects, turtles, frogs, and more. Games, crafts, and activities round out this program to make it a fun-filled adventure for all. Information: Bekky Monroe, 262-5055.

Basic Basketball Camp

For ages 7-17. Basic Basketball Camp is designed to develop basketball skills through instruction of the fundamentals of the game. Both individual and team concepts will be taught. Participants will be assigned to teaching groups and teams based upon the player’s age, size, and ability. No on-site registration; however, registration will be accepted at Recreation and Parks' main office through the first day of camp. Information: Willie Harper, 501-5111.

Fit Kidz Sports: Basketball Camp

For ages 8-15. This clinic will include instruction in many important aspects of basketball. A combination of five goals will lead participants toward being able to engage skillfully in the aspects of the game. Participants must bring a lunch, snack and drink. Instructor: Alan Worrell. Junior Golf Camp

For ages 8-14. Participants will learn the game of golf at this week-long camp. The week culminates in playing several holes of golf on Friday with an adult. In addition to instruction, each participant will receive a starter set of clubs, golf bag, and other golf accessories. On your registration form, please indicate: your child’s/children’s height; whether your child/children play golf right or left handed; and the participant’s and adult participant’s shirt size (adult sizes only). Therapeutic Recreation Camps

These camps offer opportunities for peer interaction and development of social and life skills and a positive self-image through a variety of activities. Participants will be divided into age-appropriate groupings. Registration will not be accepted without a completed packet. Information and registration packet: Lizz Bapp, 501-7489.

Camp Excel
For ages 6-17. Open to individuals with A.D.D., A.D.H.D., Mild M.R., or Asperger’s Syndrome who meet minimum eligibility requirements. Minimum eligibility requirements are based on age requirements, behavioral issues that compromise safety, and certain medical needs. Participants are expected to function with a maximum staffing support ratio of 1:4 and require minimal support in the areas of interaction and personal care.

Preschool Summer Camps

Kiddie Kamp & Kinder Kamp
These camps are based on learning by doing and targeted specifically for three, four, and five-year olds. Each session includes experiences in math, science, social studies, and language. Our programs are designed around the premise that children learn best when they engage in hands-on activities rather than simple routine tasks. Registration Note: Henrico residents may register for only one (1) summer preschool camp through May 14. Registration for additional sessions will open to everyone beginning May 15, if space is available.
