Fall-Winter 2010-11

Registration for Fall-Winter 2010-11 programs begins September 11.
These programs are designed for adults, but select classes are open to teens. All participants under 18 must be registered by an adult.

Registration Notes:

  • All those attending a program (that requires registration) must be listed on the registration form along with the required assumption of liability signatures.
  • Please register at least one week prior to the start date!
  • For additional registration information, see the Registration page.

Online Registration for Free Programs:
Registration for free programs (that require registration) is available online. Go to the online registration page to set up an online account with Recreation and Parks. Once you have an account, you will be able to register online for these free programs beginning September 11 at 8 a.m.

Instructors:
Unless listed otherwise, programs are taught by Recreation Staff. All fitness, dance, and sports programs are taught by instructors who are nationally certified in their area(s) of expertise.

If you have a disability and will need assistance or special accommodations in order to enjoy any of these programs or events, call Therapeutic Recreation at 501-5112 no later than ten working days prior to the program date. Arts & Crafts

Blacksmith Workshop
For ages 16 and older. Participants will learn basic blacksmith techniques on a 19th-century style forge. Instruction includes hands-on activities and a project to take home. Information: Anna Truong, 501-2130.

Sewing Guild

Hatha Yoga (Beginner and Ongoing)

Guitar Classes
Students must have a guitar (acoustic or electric depending on the class) and be willing to practice at home. Students are expected to retake a class level until the skills have been evaluated and mastered. The supply fee covers the cost of the book listed and is not required if the participant already has the appropriate book.

Guitar Primer (Prep Course)

Family Climb Time
For ages 6 and older. Registration of a paying adult is required with participants under 13. Spend time with your family learning the ropes at the YMCA Adventure Center Climbing Wall. During this two-hour course, participants 13 and older are instructed on belay techniques, while children younger than 13 are instructed on proper climbing procedures. The Great Nature Escape-False Cape State Park
For ages 18 and older. Imagine yourself spending a weekend in a lodge on a barrier spit where, from the porch, you'll enjoy a a spectacular sunset over Back Bay. Take an early morning hike to watch the sun rise over the Atlantic. Spend the weekend discovering False Cape State Park's natural history, geology, and ecological wonders through a variety of activities.

Transportation to and from Virginia Beach WILL NOT BE PROVIDED. (False Cape State Park is inaccessible to vehicular traffic. A shuttle is provided to transport us and unless there is an emergency, we are committed to being at False Cape all weekend.) Eagle Tour on the James
For ages 18 and older. Experience the abundant wildlife along the James River while slowly cruising on a 24-foot covered pontoon boat. Adult Sports Leagues
Henrico County offers many adult leagues for ages 18 and older to participate in. These sports leagues include soccer, lacrosse, baseball, rugby, cricket, flag football, and more. For adult sports leagues, there are no refunds after the first scheduled day of play. If you would like more information regarding any sports activities, call Andy Crane at 501-5156.

Adult Winter Basketball League
For ages 18 and older. The season begins on November 8 and all games are played at Tuckahoe Middle School, Byrd Middle School, or Moody Middle School, depending on league. B League, C League (Recreational), and Church League are available, Monday through Thursday. All teams will play a 14 game season, as well as tournament playoffs. Team registration is being accepted until October 1. Total cost for a team is $496 (plus $15 per non-Henrico County resident). For registration information, call Elbert Grinnell at 501-5808.

Winter/Spring CoRec Volleyball
For ages 18 and older. The Winter/Spring Volleyball League (three men and three women) will play at Brookland Middle School beginning January 10. The leagues are divided according to skill level with the Tuesday night league being the highest caliber of play.
