These programs are designed for adults, but select classes are open to teens. All participants under 18 must be registered by an adult.

Registration Notes:

  • All those attending a program (that requires registration) must be listed on the registration form along with the required assumption of liability signatures.
  • Please register at least one week prior to the start date!
  • For additional registration information, see the Registration page.

Online Registration for Free Programs:
Registration for free programs (that require registration) is available online. Go to the online registration page to set up an online account with Recreation and Parks. Once you have an account, you will be able to register online for these free programs beginning January 23 at 8 a.m.

Instructors:
Unless listed otherwise, programs are taught by Recreation Staff. All fitness, dance, and sports programs are taught by instructors who are nationally certified in their area(s) of expertise.

Arts & Crafts

Calligraphy

Stained Glass Mosaics for Beginners
For ages 18 and older. It's easier than you think to create a beautiful stained glass piece to admire in your sunny window. Creating stained glass mosaic art will give you all the vibrant color and pop you're looking for. You'll choose from a variety of patterns and glass that we'll provide for you. Stained Glass for Beginners Plus
For ages 16 and older. Registration of a paying adult is required with participants under 18. Build on the basics of working with stained glass by constructing a panel of your choice. You will be required to purchase your own glass cutter, glass, solder, and copper foil. All other tools and supplies are provided for use during class. Safety glasses are required. Vegetarian Dishes From Chennai, India
For ages 16 and older. Food from the southern part of India is very different. Many dishes are rice based. They are low in calories and fat and are easy to make. Hatha Yoga (Beginner and Ongoing)
For ages 16 and older. "We Are Soldiers;" USCTs at New Market Heights
For ages 16 and older. On September 29, 1864, African-American troops attacked the Confederate lines along New Market Heights. Fourteen black soldiers received the Medal of Honor for their gallantry. This lecture examines the experiences of the black troops at New Market Heights, the prejudices endured, the combat experience, and the glory they achieved on the battlefield. The Great Nature Escape-False Cape State Park
For ages 18 and older. Imagine yourself spending a weekend in a lodge on a barrier spit where, from the porch, you'll enjoy a spectacular sunset over Back Bay. Take an early morning hike to watch the sun rise over the Atlantic. Spend the weekend discovering False Cape State Park's natural history, geology, and ecological wonders through a variety of activities.

1st Annual Spring Thaw Doubles Tennis Tournament
For ages 16 and older. This first annual tennis tournament will have divisions for men's and women's teams.
