Winter/Spring 2010

These programs are designed for ages 13-18.

Registration Notes:

  • All those attending a program (that requires registration) must be listed on the registration form along with the required assumption of liability signatures.
  • Please register at least one week prior to the start date!

Online Registration for Free Programs:
Registration for free programs (that require registration) is available online. Go to the online registration page to set up an online account with Recreation and Parks. Once you have an account, you will be able to register online for these free programs beginning January 23 at 8 a.m.

Instructors:
Unless listed otherwise, programs are taught by Recreation Staff. All fitness, dance, and sports programs are taught by instructors who are nationally certified in their area(s) of expertise.

Special Accommodations:
If you have a disability and will need assistance or special accommodations in order to enjoy any of these programs or events, call Therapeutic Recreation at 501-5112 no later than ten working days prior to the program date. Arts & Crafts

Amazing Altered Books
For ages 13-17. With so many materials available to create your own book, you may have trouble choosing! Learn how to transform your book into your own personal journal, sketchbook, idea book, or anything else! Information: Cindy Rinker, 261-6898.

Basic Drawing Techniques

Coloring the World With Pencils

Events

Sports Café
For ages 13-17. Have a great time at the sports café eating pizza, turkey burgers, or beef hotdogs and a selection of a la carte items. Wear your favorite sports team attire and celebrate. Henrico's Got Talent!
For ages 13-17. Showcase your talents in singing, dancing (ballet, hip hop, tap, etc.), musical instruments, and poetry. Trophies will be awarded by special television judges. Light refreshments will be served. Information: Sheila Cunningham, 795-2334.

Boys-To-Men Forum
For boys ages 13-17 with a male adult. Let's help our boys transition into men with a wealth of information at this new forum. What is on the mind of our future men, and what questions do they have? Electric Guitar I (Power Chords)
For ages 12-15. For those who know a little about guitar and want to learn chords and riffs that make electric guitar sound different than acoustic guitar. Learn two-note open and moveable power chords with songs by such artists as Green Day, Weezer, and Jimi Hendrix. Electric guitar preferred. Fee includes a $15 supply fee that is non-refundable if a cancellation is made less than a week before the start date.

Guitar Classes
Students must have a guitar (acoustic or electric depending on the class) and be willing to practice at home. Students are expected to retake a class level until the skills have been evaluated and mastered. The supply fee covers the cost of the book listed and is not required if the participant already has the appropriate book. Instructor: Scott Martin. Information: Cathy Clifton, 501-5812. 

Guitar Primer (Prep Course)
For ages 11-15. For the complete beginner who has not learned about holding the guitar, tuning, chords, or notes. Students are introduced to simple music notation and will develop skills to continue in music.

For ages 11-15. Prerequisite: Guitar Primer. For students who know a little about the guitar. Learn short G, C, G7 as well as A7, D, D7, and Em chords. Book: Essential Elements for Guitar. Fee includes a $15 supply fee that is non-refundable if a cancellation is made less than a week before the start date.

For ages 11-15. Prerequisite: Acoustic Guitar I. Students will learn full G, C, G7, and D7 chords and work on songs that change between these chords. Guitar required. Sunday Fun-Day!

Junior Croquet
