Fall-Winter 2010-11

Registration for Fall-Winter 2010 programs begins September 11.

These programs are designed for ages 6-12.

Registration Notes:

  • All those attending a program (that requires registration) must be listed on the registration form along with the required assumption of liability signatures.
  • Please register at least one week prior to the start date!
  • For additional registration information, see the Registration page.

Online Registration for Free Programs:
Registration for free programs (that require registration) is available online. Go to the online registration page to set up an online account with Recreation and Parks. Once you have an account, you will be able to register online for these free programs beginning September 11 at 8 a.m.

Instructors:
Unless listed otherwise, programs are taught by Recreation Staff. All fitness, dance, and sports programs are taught by instructors who are nationally certified in their area(s) of expertise.

Special Accommodations:
If you have a disability and will need assistance or special accommodations in order to enjoy any of these programs or events, call Therapeutic Recreation at 501-5112 no later than ten working days prior to the program date. For programs that require registration, please call and also check the accommodation box on the registration form.


Arts & Crafts

Sew Cool for Kids!

Outdoor Cooking: Pizza Party

Food Frenzy: Bring Food and Fun Together!
For ages 6-10. This hands-on class will allow your children to control what they eat and drink while navigating through the food guide pyramid and preparing a special treat. Karate (Beginner)
For ages 6-12. This class teaches the basic fundamentals of American-style karate for beginners. It includes the requirements for Yellow Belt under this karate system. The Great Debaters

Pre-Super Bowl Party
For ages 7-12. Have a great time eating pizza, turkey burgers, or beef hotdogs with a selection of a-la-carte items such as chips, nachos, fruit, and a drink. Guitar Classes
Students must have a guitar (acoustic or electric depending on the class) and be willing to practice at home. Students are expected to retake a class level until the skills have been evaluated and mastered. The supply fee covers the cost of the book listed and is not required if the participant already has the appropriate book. Instructor: Scott Martin. Information: Cathy Clifton, 501-5812.

Guitar Primer (Prep Course)
For ages 8-10. For the complete beginner who has not learned about holding the guitar, tuning, chords, or notes. Students are introduced to simple music notation and will develop skills to continue in music.

Electric Guitar (Power Chords)
For ages 9-15. For those who know a little about guitar and want to learn chords and riffs that make electric guitar sound different than acoustic. Learn two-note open and moveable power chords with songs by such artists as Green Day, Weezer, and Jimi Hendrix. Electric guitar preferred. Book: Power Chords: A Beginner's Guide with 20 Killer Rock Riffs.

Spinning Fire

Frogs and Dogs

Life on the Land
For ages 8-10. Long ago, American Indians lived along the edges of the waterways and swamplands of this area, hunting and foraging for food. They collected plant materials for their homes, for medicine, and for household items. Materials such as skin and bone were processed into tools, clothing, and weapons. Learn about these skills and traditions as we explore how these early residents lived life on the land. Information: Bekky Monroe, 262-5055.

Wolf Scouts: Birds
