The following seminars are offered by the Henrico Extension Office. Each session will be led by an Extension staff member or a Henrico Master Gardener. Seminars are open to the public; participants should pre-register. Call 501-5160 to register and to obtain additional information.
Spring Weed ControlThis seminar will provide information about a broad range of weed topics, including the use of herbicides and the application of pre- and post-emergence products to control weeds before and after they appear . Participants are encouraged to bring samples for identification and discussion. The seminar will include a question-and-answer period as well. This seminar is given in March.
Handouts
A variety of general lawn-care topics, including irrigation, fertilization, soil acidity and weed control are covered in this seminar. In addition, participants can learn about SMART Lawns - a seasonal, comprehensive program that teaches a step-by-step approach to growing a healthy lawn. SMART Lawns, which teaches environmentally friendly practices, provides participants a plan tailored to fit their specific lawn-care needs.

This seminar will explain how to build a lawn from scratch and rejuvenate an old lawn in preparation for next spring. Participants will learn about tilling, using pre-emergence weed killers and incorporating essentials into poor soil.
Learn what steps to take in the fall to help your lawn survive the winter and get ready for a healthy spring. Participants will learn about aerating, seeding, applying lime and other topics. In addition, participants can bring samples for identification and discussion.
