What do I need to do to get a commercial building permit?
You will need to submit two copies of the building plans, including site plans, along with a commercial permit application, and an existing structures affidavit if applicable, to the Building Construction and Inspections Department (804-501-4360). Be sure to include the appropriate fees.

Please submit to the Building Construction and Inspections Department (804-501-4360) an electrical permit application with fee and include two copies of the drawings showing the electrical components that will be installed (e.g., panelboards, light fixtures, exit signs, receptacles, switches, etc.).

Please submit to the Building Construction and Inspections Department (804-501-4360) a permit application with fee and two copies of the plumbing drawings showing all plumbing system components, fixtures, water supply and drain pipes that will be installed (e.g., sinks, water closets, drinking fountains, tubs, showers, hose bibbs, backflow preventers, water heaters, etc.).
