Where are the libraries and when are they open?
See a list of our libraries with addresses, phone numbers, hours and maps of locations. The County of Henrico Public Library has three area libraries, six branch libraries, a municipal law library, a bookmobile and library administration.



What happens if library materials are overdue?
A daily fine will accrue after the due date has passed. Fines may be paid when the overdue materials are returned or may remain on the library card for payment at a later date. Customers have a $10 limit on fines before circulation privileges are denied. Go to the fines web page for more information.



What are the per-day fines on an audio overdue from the library?
The fine is 10 cents per day.



How do I report suspicious behavior in the library?
Please report all suspicious behavior to any library staff member.



Where do I return library materials?
All library materials can be returned to any County of Henrico Public Library branch. Outside book returns may be used 24 hours a day. Drive-up book returns are available at select libraries. Items obtained through our Interlibrary Loan service must be returned directly to the branch where the request was made.



How many books can be checked out of the county library?
There is a limit of 50 items on a single library card. Some specific categories (i.e., holiday books, compact discs, videos, DVDs, cassettes and magazines) may be limited depending on the branch and the size of its collection.



How do I renew library books and other materials?
You can renew items at the Circulation Desk in any county library, by calling the Answer Line at (804) 652-3258. You may also renew by going to the online library catalog.

  • Click on the "My Account" tab of the blue navigation bar near the top of the screen.
  • Click on "Renew My Materials".
  • Enter your library card number and PIN.
  • Then click on the "List Charged Items" button. From this next screen, you can renew all or selected items.


Can I put materials on Hold/Transfer?
Yes. Customers can request that materials be held or transferred from branch to branch for them. No holds are permitted on bestsellers or lease books. You may choose to be notified by either by e-mail or by telephone when your hold is available. We have the capability to suspend hold(s) while you are out of town.



Why can't I place a hold on lease books or bestsellers at the library?
These items are available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Therefore, we are unable to have these materials held or sent to one of the libraries.



Can I borrow materials from other library systems?
Yes. A library staff member will complete a Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request form, available at any Henrico library. Customers will be notified when the materials arrive. The length of time these materials may be borrowed is determined by the lending library.



How can I help the Henrico County library system?
Customers are encouraged to become volunteers and/or members of the Friends of the Library. Applications and membership forms are available online and at all libraries. Volunteers and Friends provide invaluable support and services to improve Henrico's public library program.



Can I donate books and other materials to the library?
Yes. All donations are appreciated and are tax-deductible. The library reserves the right to use donated materials in various ways by adding them to the library collections or by contributing them to the Friends of the Library book sales. Due to space limitations, some libraries are unable to accept large donations at one time. Please contact your local branch for more information.



Can I have a meeting at the library?
Meeting rooms may be reserved free of charge by non-profit groups and organizations for non-profit purposes or community activities. The reservation must be made in advance by completing an application available online or at any Henrico library. Using online, first read and accept our "Room Reservation Policy". The form must be submitted to the appropriate library for approval by the library manager. For assistance in completing the form online, go to Room Request Instructions website.



Does the library have programs or storytimes for children? What programs does the library offer?
The library system has many activities for children, as well as for teens and adults.



Does the library have any books, audio books, magazines, encyclopedias or other research tools available online?
The Henrico library system subscribes to a wide variety of databases and websites. The subscription resources are for library customers only and require your library card number in order to use them.



Does the library have tax forms?
Yes, the library branches have reproducible tax forms that can be photocopied, but do not have paper forms. For more information, go to library's tax forms web page and get links to federal, state and local forms.



How do I use the library catalog?
The library catalog (iBistro) has several tips for using the online services available, including checking your account, renewing materials, changing your PIN and placing items on hold.



Why do I get a "session timed out" error message when I use the library's online catalog?
This problem can occur for customers using satellite Internet service providers. Please contact your Internet service provider about your concerns.



Can the library help my child find Accelerated Reader books?
All of the Henrico libraries carry a variety of, but not all, of the Accelerated Reader titles. Each of the libraries carries printed versions of the Accelerated Reader lists for the schools in its area. The most up-to-date lists are available through the links found on the Henrico County Public School Accelerated Reader website.



Can the library help me access its subscription databases from home/work/school?
If you are having problems accessing the library's databases, see Troubleshooting Remote Access to Online Resources for suggestions to help resolve the problem. If you've tried all of these suggestions, please e-mail the webmaster@henrico.lib.va.us or call the Answer Line at (804) 652-3258. Please be as specific as possible when reporting problems, i.e., what error message did you get?, what browser are you using?, etc.



How do I download an eAudiobook from the library?
eAudiobooks can be downloaded or played on any personal computer or portable listening device that supports Microsoft® Windows® Media Player, version 9 and above. eAudiobooks are compatible with a wide range of portable music players. Note: iPod® devices are not supported because they are not compatible with the WMA format.



What is the schedule for the bookmobile?
Please see the Bookmobile website for the current schedule.



Are DVDs/videos/movies on the bookmobile?
The bookmobile does have these items. It is best to reserve what you want and the bookmobile can bring them on their next visit.



How do I find out if a particular book is available to be checked out of the county libraries?
Go to online catalog and check from there.



Does the library have copies of the Henrico Adult Education catalog?
Yes, they are kept in the lobbies of the branches.



Why don't I get e-mail notifications from the library?
To receive e-mail notifications from the County of Henrico Public Library you must have a current e-mail address in your record and your e-mail account must accept e-mail from the library system. You may need to add the domain: henrico.lib.va.us to your list of allowed senders.



Does the library have "Jobs Weekly" copies?
Yes, they are kept in the lobbies of the branches.



What does the "J" mean in a library call number?
It identifies the book as "Juvenile".



Can I use my debit card in the library?
By October 2007 you will able to use your debit card.



Does the library take credit cards?
No, not at this time.



Does the library sell headphones?
Yes, headphones are sold at the front desk for $4.



Does the library have any Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms?
Yes, the library has FAFSA forms in both print and electronic format. The electronic version are accessible at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.



What kinds of free computer classes does the library have?
All branches teach basic computer-literacy classes as well as the Microsoft® suite of applications. Several branches offer additional specialized classes. Access online the full listing of class offerings.



Where can I get a textbook?
You will need to go to the bookstores of the local colleges.



Does the library have computers, printers, photocopiers, scanners and fax machines for use by the public?
The library branches have computers, printers and photocopiers for public use at all libraries. Computers have Internet access and Microsoft® Office applications and are available to library cardholders for two hours per day and to visitors for one hour per day. There is wireless Internet access for Henrico County Public School students who bring their laptop computers. There are fees for printing and photocopying. Scanners are available at Glen Allen, North Park and Sandston. Fax machines are not available.



Can I use the supplies at the county library, such as stapler, pencil, pen, paper, phonebook, Post-it® notes, etc.?
When the request is for something, like a stapler, that would be for quick use, yes. However, material that would use substantial amounts (paper, computer disks, etc.), no. The best thing to do is to go as prepared as possible for the work you will be doing.



Does the library have floppy disks available for purchase and how much are they?
Yes. They are $1 each.



Does the library carry discount tickets to places such as tourist attractions and movies?
No, the library branches do not.
