If you need to have fingerprints taken, that can be done between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can have criminal records checked between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. All other reports are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Keep in mind that officers work a variety of shifts and often have days off during the week. No, the division provides training only to sworn police officers.

No. However, the Division of Recreation and Parks (804) 501-7275 sometimes offers self-defense classes.
I need information on hiring an off-duty police officer.
The process for hiring an Off-duty Henrico Police Officer is easy. The scheduling of officers for off-duty work is handled through the Secondary Employment Unit. Their phone number is (804) 501-7226. Additionally, you need to request five days in advance, but most jobs can be staffed with at least two days’ notice. You can also hire an off-duty officer in plain clothes or in uniform.
How do I get a copy of a 911 tape?
You may request the tape under the Freedom of Information Act, from the Police Emergency Communications Manager, by telephone at (804) 501-7137, by fax at (804) 501-7190 or by mail to P.O. Box 27032, Richmond, VA 23273-7032. Please state the date, time and location of the incident and the reason for the request.
What frequency is the county radio system?
The County operates an 800 MHz SmartZone trunking system. As part of that system, Henrico has 24 frequencies but we also share system resources with the City of Richmond, which currently has 25 frequencies and Chesterfield County, which has 20 frequencies. All 69 frequencies in the region are capable of digital operation, and many of the talkgroups are encrypted permanently. Henrico County does not provide the list of frequencies, except on an as-needed basis.

1. How can I get my property that was seized or recovered by the police?
You, the legal owner, will need either a Court Order or authorization in writing from the originating officer, and a deposition of all court proceedings to get back your property that was either seized or recovered by the Division of Police.
Property authorized for release may be picked up at the Public Safety Building (7721 East Parham Road, at the intersection of Parham and Shrader Roads) between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, with a state-issued picture identification. The property can be released only to the person specified by the officer unless a notarized letter is presented authorizing it to be released to someone else.
A gun can be released only to the person authorized to pick it up. Vehicles and bicycles are released by appointment only. Appointments may be made by calling the Police Property Unit at (804) 501-4793 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
2. How long do I have to claim my property that had been seized or recovered by the police?
After the police have authorized its release and notified you, you will have 60 days from that date before your property becomes considered unclaimed; the county may auction it off after that. The exception to this is bicycles, which the Police Property Unit holds for 30 days before selling them.
3. My bicycle was lost or stolen. How can I find out if the Henrico police have it?
The first thing to do is find the record you made of the bike’s serial number (you did record it, didn’t you?!); this will help the police to identify your bike in order to return it to you. Then, if you believe your bicycle was stolen, make a police report. If the bike has been found and the Police Property Unit has it, the unit will hold recovered bicycles for 30 days, to give the rightful owner time to claim it. After that, the bicycles are sent to county General Services to be auctioned.
A county bicycle license may be purchased from the Police Records Unit for $1 and that may help get the bike back to its rightful owner in the event that it is lost or stolen. For more information on a license, call (804) 501-4809.
4. I have lost my wallet/purse/pocketbook. How can I find out if the police have it?
You would need to call the Police Evidence Unit, at (804) 501-4793, to check on that.
5. If I find currency or some other type of property and turn it over to the police, can I claim it after a certain amount of time if it goes unclaimed?
No, sorry, Virginia law does not provide any type of “finder’s” statute for someone other than the rightful owner to claim property.
6. I want to get my car out of the Police Impound Lot; what do I have to do?
You will need to contact the Police Evidence Unit, at 804-501-4793. Vehicles are released by appointment only.
7. I was arrested and my car was towed. Where is it?
If it was towed to a private lot, call Police Communications at (804) 501-5000. If it was seized as evidence, contact the Police Evidence Unit at (804) 501-4793.
8. How do I get more of my belongings out of a vehicle that has been impounded?
You will need to get in touch with the officer involved and he or she will have to assist you with that. The Police Evidence Unit would be unable to release personal belongings from an impounded vehicle.
9. How do I turn in to the police a firearm that is no longer wanted or was found?
To do this you must meet with an officer. You can come to either the Public Safety Building (7721 East Parham Road, at the intersection of Parham and Shrader Roads) or the Fair Oaks substation, or you can call (804) 501-5000 and ask for an officer to come to you.
How do I find out if there is a warrant out for my arrest?
There are three ways to obtain this information.
- You may ask a Henrico County police officer in person after providing your identification. You can contact the Communications Center at (804) 501-5000 and have a police officer dispatched to meet you. You can go to police headquarters at 7721 East Parham Road or go to the police Fair Oaks substation at 561 Eastpark Court (just off Airport Drive north of I-64) in Sandston. Bring your identification with you.
- You may call (804) 501-4797 (Police Warrant Services) any time and provide enough information about yourself for the technician to reasonably believe your identity. They will confirm if a Henrico County Arrest Warrant is on file for you. They can provide no other details. They cannot confirm warrants issued from other jurisdictions; you must contact that jurisdiction or see a police officer in person. They also cannot release any juvenile information over the phone; that must be done in person.
- You may go to the lobby of the Henrico County Jail at Parham and Hungary Springs Roads and speak with the receptionist. They will have a technician or police officer from Warrant Services come out and assist you. Please bring your identification.
What do I do if there is a warrant out for my arrest?

Applicants must present a valid government-issued photo identification card. The cost is $5 for an accident report and $10 for either an incident or offense report, payable by cash or personal check only.
You must be the reporting person or victim. If requesting an accident report, you must provide a valid driver’s license to prove your identity and to prove that you were involved in the accident, before the accident report can be released to you.

How do I find out if there is a warrant out for the arrest of a family member or friend?
You cannot. Confirmation of an outstanding warrant cannot be made for any other family member, friend or acquaintance.
How can I find out if you have served a warrant on someone?
The police cannot release information of that type over the phone. You can, however, call Booking, in the Sheriff’s Office at (804) 501-4586, to determine if a particular person has been arrested and is in jail.

Warrants of Arrest are issued by the County Magistrates’ Office (located next to the Jail and the Courthouse at the Government Center on Parham Road), based on the merit of a citizen’s complaint and are issued at the sole discretion of the magistrate on duty. You must appear, in person, before a magistrate. The Magistrates’ Office is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day and there is always a magistrate on duty at the western Government Center.
