Zoo

How do I get information about zoo within or around the County?

There is only one zoo in the area - Metro Richmond Zoo where you can encounter a variety of animals just minutes from Downtown Richmond. Monkeys, zebras, giraffes, lions, tigers, rhinos, and camels are just some of the more than 600 animals residing here in spacious, naturalistic exhibits.

Visit their herd of giraffe up close, and let these gentle giants eat right out of your hand! Feed and pet many barnyard animals. Various hand raised antelope reside in the petting area. Learn about their African penguins at the 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily feedings. Take the Safari Sky Ride high above the zoo to see the animals from this scenic viewpoint! Carousel and other rides are also fun for the kids.

You may also visit Maymont Park - Although not a zoo, the park offers wildlife exhibits, children's farm, a nature center, tram and carriage rides and much more.

Maymont's Wildlife Exhibits are scattered throughout the 40-acre valley between the historical estate, Children's Farm and Nature Center. All exhibits feature native Virginia wildlife in their natural habitats, including black bears, bison, white-tailed and sika deer, elk, gray and red fox, bobcats, birds of prey and an aviary displaying an impressive array of birds, many representing Virginia's wetlands. The envy of zoologists across the nation, Maymont's bear habitat alone is worth a visit.
