Assistant Chief Wayne Baber

Chief BaberChief Baber began his career as a Henrico firefighter in 1974. He was appointed fire inspector in 1976 and fire investigator in 1980. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1987, to Fire Captain in 1993, Battalion Chief in 1998, Division Chief in 2000 and to Assistant Chief in 2008.

Chief Baber has enjoyed a full breadth of assignments throughout his career. Chief Baber was assigned to the Fire Marshal's Office for three tours including one assignment as the county's Chief Fire Marshal. He also served as an EMS Captain assigned to the Fire Training Academy for two years. In addition, he has assisted with training programs that served fire recruits and fire officers. Chief Baber is an adjunct instructor for the Virginia Department of Fire Programs and has taught at various local and regional training seminars in past years.

Currently, Chief Baber is assigned as Assistant Chief commanding the Operations section. He has an Associate Degree from J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College and holds numerous state fire certifications. Chief Baber is also a graduate of the Arson Investigation School taught at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, VA.
