Federal law allows the County to award nonexclusive cable franchises and forbids the provision of cable service without a franchise in most circumstances. Federal law relating to cable franchise agreements establishes a renewal process that authorizes the County to consider (1) Comcast's performance since 2006 when the current franchise agreement was initiated and (2) how the cable system might serve the community over the course of a renewed franchise agreement. Your input regarding these two considerations will be taken into account when negotiating for a renewal agreement.
Comcast's current franchise with the County began on May 14, 2006 and will expire on May 14, 2013. Comcast has asked the County to renew its franchise in accordance with procedures established by federal law. Your comments will assist the County during the renewal process.
