Welcome to Henrico County Health Department’s Emergency Preparedness (HCHD-EP) webpage. HCHD-EP is responsible for public health disaster planning for Henrico County. HCHD-EP is coordinated primarily by the Emergency Planner, Epidemiologist, and Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Coordinator, but all public health personnel play a vital role in public health emergency preparedness. HCHD-EP staff also works closely with their colleagues in other Henrico County agencies, including emergency management, police, fire, and others, to plan for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies.

Public health emergencies include incidents such as pandemic flu outbreaks (i.e., 2009 H1N1 or avian flu), biological terrorist attacks (i.e., anthrax or plague), and by providing public health nursing support in Henrico County emergency shelters. HCHD-EP personnel follow the emergency operations plan, or EOP, that addresses these and other potential emergencies, and serves as a guide for Henrico County’s response to public health disasters.
