Employee Development & Training
Employee Development and Training (ED&T) offers Henrico County Government employees cutting edge, innovative training courses, leadership and customer service certification programs, and career enrichment coaching.
The foundation for all of ED&T’s programs is the County’s nine core competencies. Employees work to meet these core expectations for their own development and for the success of their agencies and the County as a whole. ED&T provides the resources to ensure that County employees are able to excel in these nine competency areas and to reach their development goals.
The Leadership Development Program provides a variety of resources to County supervisors, including one-on-one advising, leadership assessments, and training courses customized to the unique needs of employees who lead others.
The Emerging Leaders Certification Program provides participants with the framework, tools, and learning experiences to strengthen their leadership and customer service skills so that they are able to make decisions, and make an impact, at every level of the organization.
The Career Enrichment Program provides tools, resources, and guidance to employees as they chart their career paths.
The Role of the Supervisor series uses a blended learning approach in a program designed to meet the needs of newly-promoted and newly-hired supervisors. Courses in managing conflict, feedback and coaching, managing change, and more are part of this required series. When space allows, seasoned supervisors are eligible to attend the courses in this six-day series as well.
The Volunteer Program offers opportunities for individuals to volunteer time and services to 30 different County departments.
The Internship Program offers opportunities for individuals to participate in various unique and value-added internship opportunities in select departments within the County.
The Customer Service Certification Program offers one-on-one advising and classes with the goal of enhancing service to customers, both internal and external.
All County employees are eligible to attend the wide variety of courses in the Leadership/Professional Development and Customer Service categories. In addition, managers may attend courses in the Management category. Partnering with several technology-training providers, the Technology courses provide employees with many ways to enhance their skills. Online learning is also available to employees and offers a wide variety of courses and topics to meet their needs.
