Volunteer Program

The Henrico County Human Resources Department offers opportunities for individuals to volunteer time and services to 30 different County departments through the Volunteer Services Program. There are many needs with jobs ranging from story time leaders, to clerical assistants, to theatre volunteers.

Volunteers Recognized in April

13,250 people volunteered for Henrico County Government in 2011, contributing over 230,395 hours of their time. The Board of Supervisors has proclaimed April 15—21 to be Volunteer Week for Henrico County. We should recognize and thank our volunteers throughout the year, and especially during this important week! If you are interested in utilizing volunteers in your department or learning more about volunteering with Henrico County, check out the below information or contact the Department of Human Resources Volunteer Services Coordinator at 501-4425 or amb@co.henrico.va.us.

Internship Program

What internships are available in Henrico County Government?
Internships are unique to each department/agency. Some agencies have ongoing internship opportunities while other agencies evaluate each request ad hoc.

Where do I get information about agencies within the County of Henrico?
Look for the County Agencies pull down menu on most of the County's Web pages on top, right side. Each department has a Web site.

What does the County want me to provide to be considered for an internship?
E-mail a resume and cover letter to the Internship Coordinator at amb@co.henrico.va.us. The cover letter must include area of interest, internship requirements (if required by educational institution), hours available, beginning and ending date, total number hours-if required by program and any other information the intern would like the department/agency to consider.

Are the internships paid?
Internships at Henrico County are not paid.
