The County Manager's Office administers the daily activities of the County in a variety of areas and provides direction and oversight to County agencies in implementing policies adopted by the Board of Supervisors and procedures established by the County Manager. Its objectives are as follows:
Several agencies report directly to the County Manager, including County Attorney, Fire, Human Resources, Internal Audit, Police, and Public Relations & Media Services. Other agencies report to one of the County's five Deputy Managers as follows:
Deputy County Manager for Administration: Capital Area Workforce Center, Finance, General Services, Information Technology, Library
Deputy County Manager for Community Services: Capital Area Workforce Investment Board, Community Corrections Program, Juvenile Detention, Mental Health and Developmental Services, Public Health, Social Services
Deputy County Manager for Community Development: Building Construction and Inspections, Community Revitalization, Economic Development Authority, Permit Center, Planning
Deputy County Manager for Community Operations: Public Utilities, Public Works, Recreation and Parks, Real Property, Virginia Cooperative Extension
Deputy County Manager for Special Services: Special interagency committees and project teams
The County Manager's Office is also staffed by an Assistant to the County Manager for Board Affairs and a Legislative Liaison.
