Animal Abuse/Domestic Violence Connection
Several studies have shown that animal abuse and neglect may indicate that others in the home may be at risk of abuse and neglect, also. According to a study by DeViney, Dickert, & Lockwood, 88% of pet owning families where substantiated child abuse and neglect took place, animal abuse and or neglect also took place. All animal abuse should be reported.
To report animal neglect and/or cruelty:
Call the Police non-emergency number at 501-5000 or 727-8800. They will dispatch an Animal Protection Officer to the address you provide.
