Crash InvestigationThe Henrico Officers that work in this position are highly trained in crash reconstruction. Tire marks, measurements at the crash scene, and witnesses’ testimony combined with other evidence at the crash scene help these officers determine how crashes occurred. They can even determine the speed of the vehicle just before impact using high-tech tools and sophisticated techniques.

These officers are also called as expert witnesses when cases go to court. In addition to investigating life threatening and/or fatal traffic crashes, the officers also provide technical assistance to and train other officers. They enforce traffic laws, investigate traffic complaints, conduct traffic safety surveys and work with traffic engineers. They provide assistance with funeral and dignitary escorts, school crossing posts, and they are responsible for breathalyzer equipment maintenance and record keeping.
