The Henrico County Health Department will hold flu clinics on the first three Fridays in October. Health care staff will administer vaccines on October 2, 9, and 16, from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., at the East Clinic, 3810 Nine Mile Road, and at the West Clinic, 8600 Dixon Powers Drive.
Flu vaccines cost $10 and pneumonia vaccines are available for $16. The clinics will provide Medicare billing for both shots; participants must bring their Medicare Part-B card.

Henrico County Department of Public Works advises motorists to expect traffic delays on Saturday, October 10, beginning at 12:45 p.m., due to Highland Springs High School's Homecoming Parade.
The parade will form at South Cedar Avenue between Nine Mile Road and Jerald Street, will travel eastbound on Nine Mile Road, turn right on Oak Avenue and into Highland Springs High School.
Eastbound traffic on Nine Mile Road will be detoured using Beech Avenue, Vine Street and Quince Avenue. Westbound traffic on Nine Mile Road will not be affected, though motorists in the vicinity should expect delays.

The Henrico County Department of Social Services will hold a free, eight-week training course for potential foster parents, every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Tuesday, September 29, at the Social Services office, 8600 Dixon Powers Drive.
People interested in becoming foster parents in Henrico are encouraged to attend. Homes for teens and minorities are especially needed.

Varina District Supervisor Jim Donati will discuss White Oak Technology Park's environmental study and future development plans, as well as the Route 60/Williamsburg Road corridor, its development, transportation and land use at his next town meeting on Monday, September 21, at 7 p.m., at the Eastern Government Center, 3820 Nine Mile Road.
"This is the second community meeting I've had to seek citizen input regarding both the Williamsburg Road/Technology Boulevard Corridor Study," Donati said. "And we will also discuss White Oak Technology Park and future development there," he said.
Donati generally holds meetings the third Monday of each month. The meetings are open to the public.

"The Importance of Census 2000 & Y2K [Year 2000] Computer Challenge" is the discussion topic of Fairfield District Supervisor Frank Thornton's next constituent meeting on Monday, September 14, at 7 p.m., at the Eastern Government Center, 3820 Nine Mile Road.
"At this meeting, we are pleased to have Jacqueline Byers, director of research with the National Association of Counties, serve as guest speaker," Thornton said. "Representatives from the county will also be in attendance to answer residents'questions and comments. We want to be sure that our residents fully understand the importance of the topics regarding the year 2000," he said.
Thornton encourages public participation and in an effort to reach as many citizens as possible, asks each participant to invite three other people to join the meeting.

A. Elisabeth Oxenham has been elected Chief Judge of Henrico's Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court for a term of two years ending July, 2000.
Chief Judge Oxenham made history in July, 1994 when she was appointed the first woman ever to sit on the bench in Henrico County.
