Governor James Gilmore, III appointed Henrico County Director of General Services Paul Proto to serve on the Commonwealth of Virginia's Procurement Assessment Task Force.

The task force will study purchasing procedures throughout Virginia and will make recommendations to the Governor concerning possible legislative measures or revisions in the Commonwealth's procurement processes.

Proto previously served in a similar capacity during the late 1970s, when he was the only local government representative on the Virginia Procurement Law Study Committee. That committee's efforts resulted in the General Assembly's adopting the current Procurement Act.

Proto has been with Henrico County since 1969, served as the Director of Administrative Services from 1977-91, and was promoted to the Director of General Services during a reorganization and merging of two departments in 1991.

Proto also serves as chairman on four other state and regional boards and committees, and is active in outside professional organizations.
