The Henrico County Division of Police will hold a rabies clinic at the Public Safety Fair on Saturday, October 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Public Safety Building, 7721 E. Parham Road.

Rabies shots cost $6 each and come with a certificate of inoculation and a rabies tag. Dog owners may also purchase a license for the current year as well as 2001 at the clinic for $10 but must show proof of rabies inoculation. All dogs and cats ages 4 months and older are required to have a rabies shot.

Henrico County's Bond Referendum 2000 will be the topic of discussion at Board Chairman and Fairfield District Supervisor Frank Thornton's next constituent meeting on Monday, October 9, at 7 p.m., at Wilder Middle School, 6900 Wilkinson Road.

Representatives from the county's Department of Finance, Schools, Public Works, Libraries, Fire and Recreation and Parks will join Thornton to explain the bond process and answer questions.

On Election Day, Tuesday, November 7, Henrico voters will decide whether to approve the referendum. If approved, these bonds will allow the county to finance projects that have no alternative source of funding.

Thornton's meetings are open to the public; he encourages anyone interested in learning more about the bond referendum to attend.

The Henrico County Department of Social Services is hosting a free series of foster parent preparation classes. Social Services is currently seeking homes for children of all ages, especially for weekend care and short-term emergency situations.

The series begins on September 26, and lasts for eight weeks. Classes will meet on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Henrico County Human Services Building, 8600 Dixon Powers Drive.

Henrico County provides a number of services to support foster families, including initial and ongoing training, as well as financial support.

The Henrico County Extension Office is sponsoring the annual 4-H apple, peanut and honey sale. York and Winesap apples are available, suitable for both cooking and eating, for $8.50 per half bushel. Peanuts come in an assortment of two-pound bags. Raw peanuts are $5 per bag and includes recipes, while the deluxe cocktail peanuts, either salted or unsalted, cost $8 per bag. One-pound jars of honey are $3 each. Funds generated from this sale will help support local 4-H youth programs.

Order forms are available at the county's Extension Office in the Human Services Building, 8600 Dixon Powers Drive, or any Henrico County library. Supplies are limited; produce orders will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis after Sunday, October 1. Distribution will be on Tuesday, October 17, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Henrico Eastern Government Center, 3820 Nine Mile Road; and on Wednesday, October 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the county's Extension Office.

Henrico County will officially launch its Development Assistance web site, henricodevsite.com on Monday, September 18. The site offers information on Henrico's land development process in a user-friendly, one-stop format.

The development assistance material available on the new web site includes forms and permits, as well as information on fees and deadlines. The site provides information on boards and commissions, upcoming meetings, Geographic Information System in Henrico and a category detailing the development process.

"Henricodevsite.com will not only save users time, but will allow them to complete some of the applications online to print for submittal, limiting the number of required trips to county facilities," said Deputy County Manager Angela N. Harper.

A task force of county staff members created the web site.

Senate Majority Leader Walter A. Stosch has appointed Varina District Supervisor Jim Donati to the Small Business Environmental Compliance Advisory Board.

The seven-member board makes periodic compliance reports to the General Assembly and the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, renders advisory opinions and reviews information for small business stationary sources to ensure materials are understandable to a layperson.

State Senate Majority and Minority Leaders each appoint a board member to represent owners of small business stationary sources. Donati's appointment is for a four-year term.

Board Chairman and Fairfield District Supervisor Frank Thornton will host a free bus tour of the 1611 Citie of Henricus, home of Pocahontas, for his next constituent meeting on Saturday, September 16. The bus will depart the Henrico High School parking lot, 302 Azalea Avenue, promptly at 9:45 a.m. The program will conclude approximately two hours later at the same location.

"This is a unique opportunity to tour Henricus Historical Park, learn about its amazing history and to see its incredible view of the James River," Thornton said.

An advanced reservation is required. Those interested in the bus tour must call 501-7449, by Wednesday, September 13.
