February 27, 2002 "Emergency Preparedness--Henrico's Emergency Operations Plan" will be the discussion topic at Fairfield District Supervisor Frank Thornton's next constituent meeting on Monday, March 11, at 7 p.m., in the Eastern Government Center multipurpose room, 3820 Nine Mile Road. Henrico's Assistant Emergency Services Coordinator Capt. Mike Cox, Deputy Police Chief Lt. Col. Doug Middleton and Health Director Dr. Curtis Thorpe will join Thornton to provide information and answer questions. Thornton's meetings are open to the public; he encourages anyone interested in learning more about this topic to attend. February 27, 2002 Yesterday, Henrico County Manager Virgil R. Hazelett, P.E. presented the second annual Henrico Excellence in Public Service Award to Fire Lieutenant Douglas E. Reynolds. The award recognizes a general government employee who consistently demonstrates the values and qualities that are the hallmark of public service in Henrico. Only one of Henrico's more than 3,500 employees receives this honor each year.Coworkers often describe Reynolds as an individual who clearly makes Henrico County a top priority. Reynolds began his career with the Division of Fire in 1988 as a firefighter. He entered the Career Development Program and subsequently achieved the rank of lieutenant. Reynolds currently works in the Community Services Section as the division's media liaison and makes himself available around the clock to media seeking accurate and timely information. "Through his tireless efforts and own initiative, Doug clearly demonstrates his commitment to the citizens of Henrico County and the Division of Fire daily by always putting others first," said Fire Chief Ronald L. Mastin. February 8, 2002 The Henrico Area Mental Health & Retardation Services Board has elected the following individuals for 2002: George H. Hettrick, chairman; Nita J. Grignol, vice chairman; Doris H. Roberts, secretary; Willie L. Bennett, member at large and Raymond C. Gudum, member at large. Established in 1969, Henrico Area Mental Health & Retardation Services Board directs comprehensive community mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse services to individuals and families in Henrico, Charles City and New Kent counties. This three-county area includes both suburban and rural communities, covering 670 square miles. Twelve citizens, appointed by the elected board of supervisors in the three supporting counties, comprise the Henrico Area Mental Health & Retardation Services Board. Henrico County appoints one member from each of its five magisterial districts and five consumers/family members. Charles City and New Kent counties appoint one member each to the board.
