The Henrico County Coalition Against Domestic Violence presents "Safe Homes, Safe Communities: Partnerships to Promote Peace" on Friday, February 15, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Henrico Training Center, 7701 E. Parham Road. This domestic violence conference will feature speakers from public, private and non-profit sectors. The cost to attend is $25, and includes a continental breakfast, lunch, breaks and all conference materials. The conference is open to the public; however, registration is required.

The Henrico County Coalition Against Domestic Violence is a team of agency members and individuals committed to providing leadership in creating a community where domestic violence is not tolerated.

The Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) has appointed eight Henrico officials to serve on the association's steering committees for a one-year term.

Henrico County Board Chairman and Varina District Supervisor James B. Donati, Jr. will serve on the Administration of Government Committee; Board Vice Chairman and Three Chopt District Supervisor David A. Kaechele is the Region 3 representative on VACo's Board of Directors and will serve on the Finance Steering Committee; Brookland District Supervisor Richard W. Glover will serve on the Community Development and Planning Steering Committee; Fairfield District Supervisor Frank J. Thornton will serve on the Education Steering Committee; and Tuckahoe District Supervisor Patricia S. O'Bannon will serve on the Telecommunications and Utilities Committee as well as the Nominating Committee. Additionally, Deputy County Manager George T. Drumwright, Jr. will serve on the Health and Human Services Steering Committee; Deputy County Manager Harvey L. Hinson will serve on the Environment and Agriculture Steering Committee and Deputy County Manager Robert K. Pinkerton will serve on the Transportation Committee.

Steering committee members provide policy direction to VACo staff, assist with the analysis of statewide issues as they affect Virginia's governments and consider proposals to the annual legislative program. VACo provides local government members a resource network for planning and implementing new ideas and technologies.

The Henrico County Division of Police is holding a rabies clinic on Saturday, February 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at gate four of the Richmond International Raceway Complex. Rabies shots cost $6 each and include a certificate of inoculation and a rabies tag. Dog owners may also purchase a license at the clinic for $10, but must show proof of rabies inoculation. All dogs and cats ages 4 months and older must have a rabies shot.

The National Association of County Behavioral Health Directors (NACBHD) has elected Henrico Director of Mental Health and Retardation Services James W. Stewart, III, as president for a two-year term. NACBHD is an affiliate of the National Association of Counties (NACo). As president of NACBHD, Stewart also serves on the NACo Board of Directors.

Stewart began his career with Henrico County in 1977 as the Mental Health Services Director and has served as the Director of Mental Health and Retardation Services since 1981. He earned a bachelor's degree from Rhodes College in Memphis and a master's degree from the University of Tennessee. Henrico Area Mental Health and Retardation Services provides comprehensive community mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse services for individuals and families in Henrico, Charles City and New Kent counties.

The Henrico County Board of Supervisors has elected Varina District Supervisor James B. Donati, Jr. chairman of the board, and Three Chopt District Supervisor David A. Kaechele as vice chairman for a one-year term.

Donati was elected to the board in 1991, and has previously served as chairman in 1994 and 1997. In addition to numerous county committees, Donati currently serves on the following boards and commissions: Capital Region Airport Commission, Small Business Environmental Compliance Advisory Board, Maymont Foundation Board of Directors, Richmond Regional Planning District Commission, Virginia Municipal League's Transportation Policy Committee, Henricus Foundation Advisory Board, James River Development Corporation Board of Directors, National Association of Counties' Community and Economic Steering Committee, Virginia Association of Counties' Administration of Government Steering Committee and the Virginia Transit Association Board of Directors.

The Henrico Board of Supervisors meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m., in the Administration Building Board Room, located at Parham and Hungary Spring roads.

The Henrico Extension Office is holding its annual berry sale to support local 4-H youth programs. Anyone interested in purchasing strawberry, blueberry and blackberry plants can pick up an order form at any Henrico library branch, or from the Extension Office, 8600 Dixon Powers Drive. Strawberry plants cost $6 for a bundle of 25, blueberry plants cost $3.50 each and blackberry plants are $4.50 each.

The Extension Office expects to fill all orders received by February 20, and will process all orders received thereafter on a first-come first-served basis. Plants will be distributed on Thursday, March 14, noon to 6 p.m., and Friday, March 15, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Glen Allen Softball Complex on Mountain Road. Henrico County General Registrar Janet C. Coon has earned recertification as a Certified Professional General Registrar from the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service and the Division of Continuing Education at the University of Virginia. To maintain certification, candidates must complete 60 hours of continuing education within four years.

Coon has served as the county's general registrar since 1995. The position is appointed by the Henrico County Electoral Board for a four-year term and does not serve as a representative of any political party.
