The Henrico County Public Health Department will hold appointment-only flu vaccine clinics on Friday, Nov. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., at both its East and West locations:
* East Clinic, Glen Echo Building, 3810 Nine Mile Road;
* West Clinic, Human Services Building, 8600 Dixon Powers Drive.
To schedule an appointment, residents should call 652-3190 (East) or 501-4651 (West) from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning Monday, Nov. 13.
The clinic will offer flu shots as well as FluMist nasal vaccine. Shots are available for individuals 6 months and older. The nasal vaccine is recommended for individuals ages 5 to 49 years without underlying chronic health conditions.
The cost for the shot is $25; the nasal vaccine costs $30. The Public Health Department will accept cash, personal checks or Medicare Part B as payment; the department cannot accept other health insurance plans or credit cards.
Henrico health officials recommend an annual flu shot for children ages 6 to 59 months and their household contacts, and for people who are at increased risk for flu-related complications. Officials also recommend that individuals who provide essential community services receive the vaccine, which takes about two weeks to become effective.
