Area residents can build their own rain barrel -- and learn ways to conserve water around the home -- at the "Rain Barrel Make and Take" workshop on Saturday, June 30, from 9-11 a.m. at the Belmont Recreation Center, 1600 Hilliard Road.
Sponsored by the Henricopolis Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), the workshop will offer hands-on instruction and materials to construct a rain barrel, which provides an easy, inexpensive way for homeowners to maintain a supply of fresh water for outdoor use. A rain barrel also can help homeowners conserve water while diverting runoff from storm drains, which protects the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed.
Cost of the workshop is $41, which includes materials for building the rain barrel. To register, participants should call 501-5147 by Friday, June 15.
For more information, contact Henricopolis SWCD at 501-5175.
