The next town meeting of Henrico County Board of Supervisors Chairman and Varina District Supervisor Jim Donati will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the newly renovated Henrico Theatre. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the theater, located in Highland Springs at 305 E. Nine Mile Road.
Staff from Henrico Recreation and Parks will join Donati to answer questions and lead a tour of the refurbished facility, which was unveiled at an open house and dedication ceremony last month.
The county purchased the Henrico Theatre, which originally opened in 1938 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, in 1999. A $5.8 million renovation and expansion project has converted the one-time movie palace into a fine-arts venue capable of hosting a variety of activities, including live theater, music, dance, film, group meetings and multimedia presentations. The historic, 400-seat theater features a vintage movie projector and restored art deco details.
Varina town meetings are open to the public. Call 501-4208 for more information.

The ongoing dry weather pattern has caused water levels to remain low in the James River. Henrico County Manager Virgil R. Hazelett, P.E. has announced the implementation of modified mandatory water restrictions for all Henrico public water customers, including Goochland County, effective today, Wednesday, Nov. 14.
The Henrico County Board of Supervisors authorized the modified mandatory water conservation measures under a new emergency ordinance at its Nov. 13 meeting. The modified measures differentiate between lawns and landscaping, allowing the watering of landscaping three days per week. In addition, the measures now limit the watering of athletic fields.
" These modified mandatory restrictions will allow watering of landscapes and athletic fields while meeting the regulatory requirement of a reduced water demand," Hazelett said.

When Henrico voters go to the polls on Nov. 6, they'll receive a helping hand from dozens of people who won't be allowed to cast a ballot -- the student volunteers of the Henrico Voter Page Program.
Nearly 170 students ages 16 and 17 from Henrico County Public Schools will work with election officials to assist voters at the county's 91 precinct sites. Pages will serve as greeters and assist elderly and disabled voters; help voters locate precinct information and complete forms; give demonstrations of the county's touch-screen voting equipment; and help the precinct election officials with various tasks. (State law prohibits pages from entering a voting booth or handling the actual voting machines, poll books or ballots.)
Currently in its sixth year, the Voter Page Program is designed to educate young people about the electoral process, encourage their participation and cultivate a sense of community service. Students are recommended by their teachers, receive two hours of training and take an oath before becoming pages.
Coordinated by the Henrico County Electoral Board and the Voter Registration and Elections Office, the program received an achievement award from the National Association of Counties in 2004.
