The Division of Recreation and Parks is planning fun and exciting camps for 2013.

Camp Registration

Camp Registration Notes:
- Payment is due in full at the time of registration.
- On April 27, you may bring only one (1) other family’s registration forms with your
family’s forms (walk-in registration). - Camp registration is for Henrico County residents only through May 27.
- Beginning May 28, registration for fee-based camps will open to non-Henrico County residents. (This does not include Summer Blast & Teen Scene.)
- A participant may enroll in more than one fee-based camp but cannot register for more than one session in each type of camp until May 28.
- A participant may only enroll in one (1) Summer Preschool Camp (Wee Wonders or Kinder Campers) through May 27.
- Registration for additional sessions will open to everyone beginning May 28 if space is available.
- Register at least one week prior to the start date (if space is still available).
Summer Blast & Teen Scene Registration Notes:
- Open to Henrico County residents only.
- Participants must have completed grades K-4 or 5-8 during the 2012-13 school year.
(When registering, enter the grade your child is currently in and will complete in June 2013.)

For grades K-4 & 5-8 (Henrico County residents only.) Located at multiple schools and recreation centers.

Folk Art & Performing Arts
Folk Art and Craft Camp
Ages 6-12. Come learn about and create art with a purpose while also having fun. Create individual and group projects. Learn to curate a show with an art exhibit on the final day. Information: 261-6898.

CenterStage Camp
Enjoy a performing arts camp for youth presented at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. This camp will offer workshops and training in areas of theatre, dance, and music including sessions in acting, improvisation, choreography, makeup, set painting, costuming, special effects, auditioning for the camera, and more. The fee is $200 per session for the first child and $150 for each additional child in the immediate family. Non-residents will be charged an additional $20 per child. Information: 501-5138.

History
Walkerton Explorers Camp
Ages 8-12. Find out why Walkerton was such a popular place back in the 19th century. Role plays, examination of artifacts, and investigative work will bring Walkerton to life. Make crafts based on objects in the building like the floor cloth and play with toys and games popular in the 19th century. Information: 261-6898.

Civil War Camp
Ages 10-12. Travel back to the Civil War! Experience what it was like to join the army and serve as a soldier. Learn about Civil War sites and individuals like General R. E. Lee and African-American soldier Christian Fleetwood who passed through Henrico County during the war. Information: 652-3411.

History Camp
Ages 10-12. From early American Indian life to 20th-century luxuries experience 500 years of culture in five days. During this jam-packed, hands-on program, participants will learn how our ancestors cultivated crops, cooked over an open fire, and wove cloth. Test your skills with an atlatl, construct a yahakin, and chink a log building on your journey through time. Information: 501-2130.

Nature & Outdoors
Three Lakes Nature Camp
Ages 8-10. Does one week of nature discovery sound exciting to you? Each morning campers will go on a quest and develop an awareness of nature as they learn about insects, turtles, frogs, and more. Here We Grow Gardening Camp
Flowers and dragonflies, lady bugs and wiggler worms. Explore nature at work. Have fun with gardening activities and crafts that teach you to grow a happy and beautiful vegetable and flower garden decorated with hand-made stepping stones, bird feeders, and more! Information: 343-3506.

Camp Henrico
Camp activities include canoeing, fishing, archery, arts and crafts, recreational tree climbing, swimming, and nature activities. Sessions I-III include rock wall climbing and Session IV includes kayaking and a day at a ropes course. Fee includes all admissions and is $200 per session for the first child and $150 for each additional child in the immediate family. Non-residents will be charged an additional $20 per child. Sports
Basic Basketball Camp
Ages 7-17. Basic Basketball Camp is designed to develop basketball skills through instruction of the fundamentals of the game. Both individual and team concepts will be taught. Participants will be assigned to teaching groups and teams based upon the player’s age, size, and ability. No on-site registration; however, registration will be accepted at Recreation and Parks main office on the first day of the camp, if space is available. Information: 501-5111.

Junior Golf Camp
Ages 8-14. This week-long camp gives children the opportunity to learn the game of golf. On Friday, participants will play several holes of golf with an adult. In addition to instruction, each participant will receive a starter set of clubs, golf bag, and other golf accessories. On your registration form, please indicate your child’s height, whether your child plays golf right or left-handed, and the participant’s and adult participant’s shirt size (adult sizes only). Therapeutic Recreation Camps
Therapeutic Recreation camps offer opportunities for peer interaction and development of social and life skills and a positive self-image through a variety of activities.
New! A TR Camp Pre-Registration Packet must be filled out and returned prior to registration. Completed packets must be recieved by April 19 to be eligible to register for a TR camp beginning April 27. Camp Excel
Ages 6-17. Open to individuals with A.D.D., A.D.H.D., Mild ID, or Asperger’s Syndrome who meet minimum eligibility requirements. Participants will be divided into age appropriate groupings. Minimum eligibility requirements include age requirements, behavioral issues that compromise safety, and certain medical needs. Participants are expected to function with a maximum staffing support of 1:3 and require minimal support in the areas of interaction and personal care. Information: 501-5135.

Henrico RESIDENTS ONLY may register for one Preschool Camp (Wee Wonders or Kinder Campers) session per participant through May 27. Wee Wonders Safari Camp
Ages 3-5. Participants must be toilet-trained. Join us on this fun adventure for preschoolers as we swish through tall grass and read with the rhinos! Mornings will be filled with puppets and paints and stories galore! Art, music, and lots of movement will encourage independence, creativity, and learning. Please bring a snack and drink. New Procedure: Families of children with disabilities that need extra assistance should call Jennifer Godfrey at 501-5135 to discuss special accommodations and request an inclusion packet. Packets are available now and must be completed and returned by April 26 in order to qualify for inclusion services at a camp. This does not guarantee registration, you must also register for camp(s) beginning April 27.
