Twin Hickory Park
The Project consists of construction of a new community park on the 48.5 acre Twin Hickory site located at 5231 Shady Grove Road, Glen Allen, Virginia 23059. The new park development and construction will consist of site work, park access road (1,300 LF), parking areas (110 spaces), concrete work/curb & gutter, and utility infrastructure (public water and sewer). Other supporting work will include features such as walking trails, open play areas, multi-purpose field, landscaping, irrigation, spray ground/playgrounds, picnic shelters and restrooms. The specific construction work is outlined in the revised master plan.
Total project funding was $3,000,000 (2005 Bond Project)
The new park is scheduled to open June 2014.
Monthly Progress Update:
On-site construction work began November 19, 2012. The site contractor is now approximately 95% completed with the overall park site work, rough/fine grading effort, road/parking areas and utilities (water/sewer systems). The work related to the large multipurpose grass sports and grass event fields are completed. The contractor is 90% completed with the concrete sidewalks and curb and gutter work. Ongoing work in October and November will be to stabilize the site and establish grass on all denuded areas of the site. This work is ongoing and the new park irrigation system is facilitating this effort. Work on the park trail system is ongoing and approximately 75% of the trail system is now completed. Construction work related to the large park restroom and shelter building will occur early 2014. Work related to the free-standing shelters and spray ground will also be initiated February 2014. Installation of the base course paving of road system and all parking areas will be completed in conjunction with the completion of the large park restroom and shelter building. The park final completion and grand opening date has been revised to June 2014.
