Free Programs

 

Blood Pressure & Cholesterol Screening
For ages 50+. Come and get your blood pressure and cholesterol checked and learn healthful ways to keep it under control. To ensure accuracy, don’t eat breakfast before having cholesterol tested. Service provided by Westport Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Free. Please call Cindy Spear at 804-243-9785 to make an appointment.

Open Gym


Open Gym: Senior Pickleball

For ages 50+. Pickleball has been described as a fun blend of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. Join our pickleballers for social play throughout the week. Participants will be required to sign a liability waiver provided on site. This program is continuous throughout the year but will not meet on County holidays. Equipment provided.

Open Gym: Senior Multi-Sport
For ages 40+. Join us for open gym on Friday mornings. Participate in basketball, volleyball, table tennis, pickleball and more! All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver provided in site. Henrico residents only. Senior Open Gym will not be held on County holidays or when other programs are scheduled

Open Gym: Senior Volleyball
For women 40+ and men 50+. Volleyball is competitive, fun, and a great way to meet new friends. Join our volleyballers at Deep Run Recreation Center for pick-up play every Tuesday and Thursday. All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver provided on site. Program will not meet on County holidays.

Cheswick Walking Club
Ages 50+. It’s fun and easy! Walk your way to improved health and fitness.This club combines fitness and fun for the walker who likes to socialize. Visitors welcome! This club meets on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-noon throughout the year at Cheswick Park. On the first Tuesday of each month, a meeting is held at Belmont Recreation Center. Information: 282-1714.

GolfGolf Club
Senior golfers are looking for men and women to join their weekly games. Play different area courses on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. Information: 740-3209.

Leisure Clubs
Each club meets on a regular basis, except during July and August. Meetings consist of a discussion of club business, guest speakers, or entertainment. Visitors welcome.

Originating in China 2,000 years ago, Mahjong is a game of skill, strategy, calculation, and a certain degree of luck. All levels can enjoy the American version of this classic game. Supplies are provided.

Tennis Clubs
For ages 55+. If you enjoy challenging tennis with a large dose of fun, contact the Net Set or the Racketeers. Men and women can join in round-robin style social tennis. Intermediate level of play. Both clubs play April-November at Belmont Recreation Center, 8:30-11:30am.

S.A.L.T./Triad Council (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together)
S.A.L.T./Triad Council is a cooperative effort and working partnership between the County of Henrico Division of Police, County of Henrico Sheriff’s Office, and senior citizens throughout Henrico. Its purpose is to develop, expand, and implement effective crime prevention and education programs for the benefit of our senior citizens and to improve the overall quality of life by making our communities a safer place to live. S.A.L.T./Triad is a cooperative program sponsored nationally by the American Association of Retired Persons, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the National Sheriff’s Association.
